Distance=Time..??

Hey

Recently i was thinking..( what can i do, got loads of free time..), I found a very interesting fact about Mumbai which separates it from anywhere else in the world..

When in Mumbai, you ask someone how far is say VT from Thane a true Mumbaikar wil say 1 hour by train. I can bet that no one will say 40km. This is a unique phenomenon only to Mumbai. This is even more prominent if u travel via Powai ;-) If u ask someone how long it takes from Kanjurmarg to Seepz, you would get an answer, 'More than an hour' despite the distance being abt 10 km owing to the traffic.

Just a passing thought i had..If anyone of you have any such anecdotes, please do share it...

Ganpati Bappa Morya!

Hey..

M back after a bit of a hiatus. This year (as every year) in our society, we come together and make the decorations (or makar) for Ganesh Chaturthi. The main contributors are

Archana (The creative mind behind everything)

Chetan ( Lots of experience and inputs)

Abhijeet ( Specially flown in from London)

Ishan ( No comments!)

and Me

This year's theme was a open book. And this is how it turned out...(The ganpati in the book is made using pulses..)

Looks quite good na.. :-)

The football season is upon us!

The new Premier League season is upon us with champions Manchester United starting as favorites for their third title in a row. They won the both the Premier League and the Champions League to stamp their authority on the footballing world. They have the most potent strike force with Ronaldo Rooney and Tevez. They seem to be relentless towards glory yet again under ther astute manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The usual suspects are in pursuit trying to stop them from achieving glory.

Chelsea have been the closest and the most dangerous threat with Roman 'moneybags' Abramovich pumping his oil millions in a bid to win Chelsea the Champions League which they so heart-breakingly ;-) lost to Manchester United last season. They have managed to rope in Luis Felipe Scolari to resurrect the team which won 'almost' everything but actually won nothing.

Arsenal are the other team that are serious title contenders. But the very young squad for which the lack of experience at crunch times has severely cramped them and they havent won a major trophy years. The flair and exuberance of Arsene's boys are a joy to watch but they do need to knuckle down and show some grit if they have to win anything this time around.

Liverpool, a team of indiviuals. Actually just an indiviual. Rafa Benitez plays around with his team like it is personal fiefdom. 100 odd matches with team changes doesnt quite endorse the fact that never change a winning combination. But then again, when did they ever have a winning combination ;-) Robbie Keane's purchase may add some edge to their attack, but they lack the consistency to win the league.

Other teams that may finish in the top four are Everton, Tottenham, Aston Villa, West Ham and probably Man City.

So this is my preview of the new BPL season. Lots more posts coming up as the season progresses.

And if any doubts persist about the club i support, i would like to say...

GLORY GLORY MAN UTD..!!

Congrats Abhinav Bindra!!

Hey,

Abhinav Bindra's achievement is all that has been hogging the news lately and I am glad about it. He truly deserves every accolade he gets. He seems to be unaffected by it, but it has got to have changed him in some way. He is India's first ever individual gold medal winner in the 108 years of Olympic history.

But the fact is he has done it all on his own. He has spent crores to go abroad and trained. He has an airconditioned shooting range in his backyard. How many people can afford that? He owes nothing to the archaic government and the sports authorities.

Atleast we can hope that this starts an Olympics movement in our country. The government should at least invest in this current hype and try to improve the current sad situation. We have a Commonwealth game to host in 2010 and we should aim for a decent showing there.

For now, Kudos to Abhinav Bindra!! You have made the country proud!!
